Industry veteran, Leigh Howard, has resigned from his position as Australian managing director of the Westcon Group.

He will leave the distributor in June.

After spending 17 years in the distribution business, Howard is considering a different career path and possibly returning to the UK, according to the company.

Westcon executive vice-president for Asia-Pacific, Wendy O’Keeffe, said she will step in as acting managing director during the transition.

The distributor will initially seek a replacement internally from its global operations but hasn’t ruled out recruiting externally.

“We want to take our time to make sure we have got the right replacement,” O’Keeffe said.

Howard joined Westcon 14 years ago in the UK. He moved to Australia in 2002 to take up the national sales manager position.

O’Keeffe was the managing director before Howard but she left the position to take up the role of Westcon executive vice-president for Asia-Pacific.
