Communications vendor, Huawei, will open a new Adelaide office.
The Chinese company will hire 50 people for the office which will be a hub for Huawei’s work in state. It employs 400 staff in Australia.
The vendor is currently working on upgrading Vodafone’s mobile network nationwide.
“We already employ 50 people at our Adelaide office and Huawei’s new office will form an important strategic headquarters for our network upgrade through South Ausrtalia, which is now underway,” Vodafone South Australia state manager, Steve Hobson, said in a statement.
Huawei recognised South Australia was becoming increasingly important to its local business.
“Opening a new office in Adelaide will not only give us an established base for the Vodafone rollout, but will also allow Huawei to engage with new business opportunities in the state,” Huawei corporate and public affairs director, Jeremy Mitchell, said in a statement.
SA Premier, Mike Rann, welcomed the move and said it would help strengthen the state’s ties with China.
Huawei recently announced it was establishing a board of directors in Australia to lead the company’s local operations.
