VMware’s Harapin gets promoted

Duncan Bennet steps in to run local operations

Virtualisation vendor, VMware, has promoted its Australian managing director, Paul Harapin, as its Asia Pacific and Japan vice-president of business development and cloud.

VMware director of commercial sales,Duncan Bennet, will be taking over Harapin’s local role. Before joining VMware, Bennet was the managing director of Sun Microsystems.

Some of Harapin’s new responsibilities include VMware’s emerging products such as cloud and how to work with service providers to take advantage of new opportunities.

““I’m into my seventh year in the role and it’s time to take those learnings and put them elsewhere. I’ll be working more on the overall strategy, investment plans and how we execute with country management,” he said. “Now I get to work on some of the corporate strategy and how to take these new areas to market and build them successfully.”

Harapin will remain in Sydney.

VMware’s newly released open source cloud development, Cloud Foundry, will fall under Harapin’s remit.

The Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) offering supports multiple programming frameworks including Spring for Java, Ruby on Rails and Sinatra for Ruby.

Developers can use it in conjunction with any public or private cloud environment, even those that don't use VMware's technology. They can also choose from among a variety of application infrastructure services.
