Wireless ISP, vividwireless has expanded coverage of its 4G network to Adelaide, Brisbane and Canberra.

The company launched its wireless network in Perth, WA, early last year. WiMax and TD-LTE hardware from Huawei were used in the rollout.

The new extension will cover areas within a 5km radius of Australian National University in Canberra, University of Queensland in Brisbane and University of Adelaide in the SA capital.

According to vividwireless CEO, Martin Mercer, the network is able to reliably deliver average download speeds of 4-6Mbps.

“Our arrival in these cities should be well received by people who have historically not been provided with access to fast mobile broadband,” he said in a statement.

vividwireless expects a strong takeup in the selected areas from business people, students, professionals and home users.

The ISP had recently claimed wireless will be the primary broadband technology over fixed-line services in the future.
