vividwireless has become part of the Global TD-LTE Initiative (GTI), joining a band of telco operators from all over the world united to promote TD-LTE as the major standard in the mobile broadband arena.
The Australian wireless ISP was invited to join the GTI when it was formed in February. The group was spearheaded by China Mobile and counts Softbank, Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Group, Clearwire, Area2 and eplus.
GTI held its first Meeting in Guangzhou, China earlier this month.
LTE technology is a popular choice for telcos rolling out 4G networks but FD-LTE is the favoured standard.
The fundamental difference between the two different types of LTE standards is the way data is carried across a given spectrum. FD-LTE works on paired spectrums while TD-LTE uses unpaired spectrums.

In March last year, vividwireless switched on Australia’s first 4G network through WiMAX and TD-LTE hardware from China-based vendor, Huawei.
During trials in Sydney, the ISP recorded peak download speeds of up to 128Mbps using TD-LTE gear.
Earlier this year at the CommsDay Summit 2011, the company also suggested wireless will supplant fixed-line as the primary broadband technology used.
“vividwireless has been trialling the advanced TD-LTE technology to evaluate and determine the very best mobile broadband and voice service to meet our customers’ future needs,” vividwireless CEO, Martin Mercer, said in a statement.
In February, Telstra announced it will be rolling out an LTE network with FD-LTE equipment from Motorola Solutions. FD-LTE is the currently the favoured technology used by telcos for their 4G network deployments.
Optus and Vodafone has also flagged their intentions to rollout an LTE network.
