Electronic parking solution provider, Parkmobile Australia, has introduced a trial program that allows residents, workers and visitors to utilise their mobile phones to pay for parking at on-street metered spaces within the Carlton area of Melbourne.
The Pay-By-Phone technology was unveiled earlier this year and employs modern technologies to assist customers in easily parking their vehicles and enables city managers to make better capacity decisions.
It is hassle-free and saves time, customers do not have to struggle to find coins or operational machines and users will no longer need to predict how long they need to stay parked by only paying for the time they are parked.
The solution was launched following a successful pilot in a Sydney council area and other international governments and parking authorities. A number of adjoining councils have expressed interest in following suit since.
Parkmobile Australia managing director, Stephen McLeod, said it is looking to introduce new technologies to the parking industry within Melbourne.
“Users all around Europe, North America and Australia love the ease and flexibility it brings to parking,” he said.
The program will be fully implemented by the end of October and aims to provide drivers with another convenient and more accurate payment option.
Existing meters, tariffs and rules will not be altered during the pilot period.

Once registered, drivers can use the mobile app or a mobile phone to pay for parking. Transactions appear in real-time on handheld devices used by Parking Enforcement Officers and offers immediate protection against the risk of infringement.
