Logica grabs $33 million contract with Queensland Rail

Five-year managed services contract at core of partnership

IT and business services provider, Logica Australia, has signed a five-year managed services contract with Queensland Rail (QR) worth $33 million to transition and manage its newly-established ICT infrastructure platform.

Queensland Rail is owned by the State Government and manages passenger rail across the Brisbane and South-East network and long distance rail across Queensland. When the QR National freight rail operations business was privatised in 2010 the IT infrastructure operated as a shared service between the two organisations.

Queensland Rail has now established independent ICT capability and is working with Logica on phase one of the project to transition the QR infrastructure from QR National data centres into new datacentres by June 30 this year.

Logica CEO Asia Pacific, Colin Holgate, said, the partnership with Queensland Rail would focus on maintaining sound ICT infrastructure and practices and taking advantage of new emerging technologies to deliver the best cost and operational efficiencies.

As service integrator, Logica will coordinate the various service activities and inputs, and manage change across the ICT infrastructure service environment, according to Logica Director of Industry Solutions, Darren Covington.

the company will also maintain governance disciplines and communication processes involving key service stakeholders.

As part of the contract, Logica will provide Tier 1 Data Centres in Brisbane offering Queensland Rail the optimal combination of state of the art infrastructure and security with proximity to the Queensland Rail fibre network.

It will provide a 100 per cent Australian managed services support structure.

Components supporting the One Queensland Rail operating model include:

  • One Queensland Rail service process framework: Logica will establish a rigorous ITIL-aligned service process regime that will be the framework for all service management and delivery activity.

  • One Queensland Rail service management toolset: Logica will implement a comprehensive toolset based on the BMC service management product suite that will be tightly integrated with the ITIL process framework and deployed across the QR service environment.

  • One Queensland Rail ICT service team: Logica will work in collaboration with the QR ICT group and all other involved third parties as one team with a common focus on shared goals and objectives.

The Brisbane-based team has recently expanded to include locally based senior outsourcing and customer relationship staff who are able to draw on previous expertise supporting transport customers across the country.

They are also connected into Logica’s international rail industry capability and are regularly called upon as industry thought leaders.
