Regional telco, Southern Phone, has signed up as a Telstra wholesale 3G mobile customer and has picked Utilibill to help manage the new services.
Utilibill is a billing and provisioning software-as-a-service provider for utility companies, including telcos. The partnership between Utilibill and Southern Phone was a result of many months of development effort.
Telstra launched its wholesale 3G postpaid mobile service in January. It is not a NextG network offering. NextG remains exclusive to the Telstra.
"Utilibill demonstrated the capability to activate 3G sims on the Telstra network two years ago and the product is now finally available to wholesalers," Utilibill director, Morgan Duncan, said in a statement.
The new wholesale 3G deal with Telstra will extend Southern Phone’s coverage to 98.5 per cent of Australia’s population.
“Coverage is the single most important thing for people in regional Australia,” Southern Phone general manager, Phil Herrick, said in a statement.
