Digital Realty opens first Sydney facility

Phase one of the development project is now fully commissioned

Datacentre vendor, Digital Realty Trust, has opened its first datacentre facility in Sydney, with phase one of the development project now fully commissioned.

Named Digital Erskine Park, phase one of the 8,020 square metre datacentre facility consists of the first two of four planned 1440 kW Turn-Key FlexSM PODs.

It has a second facility under construction in Melbourne.

The company said its build represents a key milestone as it is its first operational datacentre in Australia and an important addition to the Asia-Pacific portfolio, including Singapore and Hong Kong.

“Our ability to continue to meet both the regional and global requirements of our customers is a key component of our growth in strategic markets such as Sydney,” Digital Realty CEO, Michael Foust, said.

Digital Erskine Park is an Uptime Institute Tier III certified, LEED "Gold" standard datacentre facility with roof-top free-cooling air handling units operating in an N+1 configuration per 1440kW Turn-Key Flex POD.

“A PUE number of 1.25 means a sizeable reduction in total operating costs for our customers,” Digital Realty vice-president of technology, Adil Attlassy, said.

“We anticipate our customers in Sydney will be interested in working with us to maximise the level of energy efficiency within their datacentres.”
