Security vendor, FireEye, has appointed its board of directors chairman, David DeWalt, as CEO.
Founder and former CEO, Ashar Aziz, has been promoted to serve in multiple roles – as vice-chairman, chief technology officer, and chief strategy officer.
According to DeWalt, he intends to expand FireEye’s reach and his focus will be on addressing the critical security gap plaguing businesses today – the lack of sufficient protection against this next generation of cyber attacks.
“As more and more companies fall prey to cybercriminals targeting their corporate data and proprietary IP, it becomes glaringly apparent that the current approach to security is fundamentally broken," he said.
DeWalt has had more than 25 years of experience in leading technology companies, with a focus on cyber security.
He has also served as FireEye’s board chairman since June 2012.
DeWalt was the former president, CEO, and director of McAfee, and was appointed by US President, Barak Obama, to serve on the National Security Technology Advisory Council.
"The combination of his leadership, operational experience, and industry expertise will without a doubt help usher FireEye into the next stage of its growth and expansion on a global scale," Aziz said.
