David Henderson - leaving Westcon Group
Westcon Group managing director, David Henderson, has resigned and will leave by the end of the week.
In the short-term Westcon Group executive vice-president Asia-Pacific, Wendy O'Keeffe, will assume responsibility until a replacement is found.
Henderson joined Westcon Group in August 2011 following the departure of Leigh Howard to WhiteGold Solutions.
Henderson had previously announced his retirement in November 2010 from full-time work as the general manager of partners and alliances at EMC.
He had not been looking for a new role, but the opportunity to join Westcon Group was “too good to ignore”, he said at the time.
O'Keeffe and Henderson first worked together at Tech Pacific in 1997/98 and his appointment in 2011 was part of a long history Westcon has enjoyed with his previous employer, EMC.
“He and I worked together in setting up the EMC relationship,” O’Keeffe said. “It was a very close relationship.
“We had asked David to do some consultation work with us following his retirement, and after working with the teams, he said to me ‘I’d like to put my hand up for the role.’”
She said during Henderson's 18-month stint at Westcon Group "he brought a lot of energy into the business.
"He is a strong leader and built up a strong leadership team. He's enthusiastic and he carved out a really solid channel sales strategy.
"Effectively, he's completed his assignment and I'm really pleased with the performance.
"I'll be really sad to see him go."
O'Keeffe said that in the short term Henderson's leadership team would report to her but she was comfortable with the results the team had been delivering and it would be business as usual.
As for finding a replacement, O'Keeffe said she would take a fair amount of time and begin looking in the near future.
Henderson previously held roles with Tech Pacific, 3 Com, AST Computer Systems, Toshiba and 3M.
