HP unites enterprise groups

Hewlett-Packard is melding its hardware, software and services groups into a single organisation in a bid to leverage their combined strengths.

The company announced last week it is merging its Enterprise Systems Group and the Software and Services Group into a unified $US15 billion 44,000-person organisation.

HP's Enterprise Systems Group is responsible for developing, manufacturing and marketing the company's range of Unix and Intel servers, as well as its Internet and storage offerings.

The Software and Services Group is responsible for products such as HP's OpenView management suite and its Internet-enabling tools.

The merged entity will focus on delivering a range of tightly integrated hardware, software and services capabilities for corporations, according to Ann Livermore, vice president and general manager of the new Enterprise Computing Solutions Organisation.

The move is part of a wide-ranging HP effort to better marshal its far-flung services and product infrastructure into one integrated effort, Livermore said.
