Jordan Carter is appointed chief executive at InternetNZ, a role he has held in acting capacity following the resignation of Vikram Kumar.

Kumar is now CEO of Kim Dotcom's company Mega.

InternetNZ President Frank March says the appointment followed a rigorous recruiting wherein 36 people applied for the role.

Carter has held senior policy roles within InternetNZ and has most recently worked as a consultant, providing telco, media and Internet policy advice to a range of clients in New Zealand and abroad.

“InternetNZ can and should be the key voice standing up for the Internet in our national life. That is my goal: to lead InternetNZ in being that voice,” says Carter in a press statement.

“In making technical and public policy suggestions to help protect and promote the Internet, we will work with partners old and new – and be careful to uphold our obligations to work in the interests of all New Zealanders,” says Carter.

InternetNZ's subsidiaries - NZRS and DNCL are not directly affected by the appointment, with each having its own management and boards that report into the elected InternetNZ Council.
