Optus increases 4G and 3G coverage

25 new 4G sites switched on and more than 150 upgraded 3G sites in Adelaide

Optus has completed a major expansion of its 4G and 3G mobile networks in Adelaide with the launch of 25 new 4G sites and more than 150 upgraded 3G sites.

Some of the new areas where Optus customers can experience its 4G coverage include Adelaide CBD and North Adelaide; inner-east and south-east suburbs; western and inner-west suburbs of West Lakes; northern suburb of Modbury; as well as the inner-south suburbs of Unley and Wayville.

Optus vice-president of corporate and regulatory affairs, David Epstein, said customers with 4G-enabled smartphones and tablets can enjoy Optus’ fast 4G download and upload speeds in more places when they are streaming YouTube videos, downloading large email attachments or uploading photos to Facebook.

He claimed the stronger 3G signals were enabled to provide customers with stronger 3G signals and better indoor coverage.

“Together with our 3G upgrades, we’re continuing to delight customers from Gawler in the north, to McLaren Vale in the south – providing them with stronger 3G coverage and a better experience whether in the home or out and about,” he said.

According to Epstein, Optus will also add another 100 new mobile sites in Adelaide and its surrounds to deliver additional 4G and 3G coverage in the next 24 months.

In addition, upgrades will be conducted at more than 100 existing mobile sites to support 4G and 3G coverage.

“We will be delivering some major initiatives that improve the coverage, speed and capacity of our 4G network, and enhance the strength and consistency of our 3G network.

“The work that we will be carrying out over the next 24 months ensures that customers can continue to enjoy a fast, reliable mobile service that provides more choice and competition in a 4G world,” Epstein added.
