AuDA takes control of dot-au domain

Au Domain Administration (AuDA) is to take over management of the dot-au (.au) space from Robert Elz, who has held administrative responsibility for the domain since 1985, as a result of a decision by the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA).

In response to the decision, auDA chief executive officer Chris Disspain said, "The IANA's decision recognizes that it's now time to move to a different arrangement for the administration of .au, one that reflects the changing role of the Internet in community and business life in Australia."

Once the delegation process is complete, auDA plans to implement a number of initiatives for domain management over the next few weeks. These include the introduction of competition in domain name registration, changes to name policy and the introduction of an Australian domain name dispute-resolution process.
