IT solutions heavyweight EMC has unveiled new unified data storage systems to unleash the power of flash and deliver unprecedented performance at one-third of the price.
The company unveiled its “game changing” VNX line, the building blocks of public, private and hybrid Cloud services, to much fanfare in Lotus F1 team Colours at a live broadcast from Milan at 7pm EST.
The announcement is a boon for channel partners who are expected to become more competitive as an increasing number of enterprise customers move to the Cloud.
The new line raises the bar on application performance, storage efficiency, data protection, data availability and ease-of-use with new multi-core software accelerating application and file performance by up to four times, according to EMC.
VSPEX reference architectures will also double the number of virtual machines for the same price with a broader spectrum of choice for workloads.
EMC director of mid-tier storage, Martin Milthorpe said the new systems would take customers well beyond mid-range storage at the same price and that it was becoming and “end-to-end solution”.
“It’s about making our channel partners a lot more competitive by giving them a price and performance advantage compared to other resellers and other storage arrays,” he said.
“In terms of our first generation it’s really game changing for them (resellers) going out and talking to their customers and meeting those requirements with a much more cost-effective solution.
Millthorpe also said he was seeing a greatly increased take up of Cloud from enterprise with customers looking to move as much of their workload as quickly as possible.
“It will increase their pipeline and increase their win rates by having a much more competitive platform that delivers better business outcomes for their customers,” he said.
"I have met with 60 per cent of our partners and I am seeing a lot of excitement," he said. "They do believe this will make them a lot more competitive, increase their win rates and that’s exciting for us and for them."
The launch also saw the release of XtremSW Cache 2.0 software which offers deeper integration with EMC arrays, driving down latency by 65 per cent.
EMC chief executive, David Goulden said Customers were demanding more performance and efficiency from their current data center infrastructure while, at the same time, exploring new architectures for their next generation mobile and Web applications.
