McDonald's mobile payment app to remove last vestiges of humanity from fast food service

The new system will hopefully bridge the disconnect between McDonald's delicious food and hellacious ordering experience.

Sometimes fast food still isn't quite fast enough.

That's what McDonald's seems to be thinking as the company prepares to roll-out a new mobile payment app that will hopefully remove the unnecessary confusion from the restaurant's current line-based, anarchy-prone approach to fast food ordering.

The mobile payment system will begin a test roll-out in Salt Lake City and Austin. The app will allow customers to order and pay for their food via their phone and then pick-up the food in stores, curbside, or through the drive through.

The app will presumable be similar to the mobile payment system from former McDonald's subsidiary Chipotle, which allows customers to pre-order and pay through its iOS app (but only in limited markets through its Android app for some reason).

After reaching out to the company for specifics on when the system will be available and for what devices, a McDonald's rep responded via email: "We're always looking at new technologies to make the McDonald's experience better for our customers. We are testing some of these technologies in a few markets, so it's premature to speculate on the decisions we may make after the tests, but we're excited to bring a cutting-edge experience in the future to our customers."

I for one fully support any technology that will allow me to enjoy more McDonald's decadent deep fried deliciousness while spending less time in the warm-hued hellscape that is being in an actual McDonald's.

Correction: The text has been updated to reflect that Chipotle is no longer a subsidiary of McDonald's which divested completely from the chain in 2006.
