Digital Realty opens new Melbourne datacentre

New facility will help stimulate more ICT growth in Victoria

Digital Realty has officially opened its new datacentre facility located in Melbourne’s Deer Park.

Digital Realty senior vice-presidnet and regional head Asia Pacific, Kris Kumar, said Digital Deer Park was a key part of its Australian growth strategy.

In February last year, Digital Realty stated it would invest about $150 million in establishing and operating two datacentres. The first datacentre was exclusively built for National Australia Bank at Deer Park, and this second datacentre operates on the same site.

Minister for Technology, Gordon Rich-Phillips, said the new facility would help stimulate economic activity in the area.

“Not only will Digital Realty’s facility provide critical computing and data infrastructure to our state, the economic benefits for Melbourne’s west and Victoria as a whole cannot be overstated,” Rich-Phillips said.

Rich-Phillips stated Victoria’s ICT sector currently employs more than 145,000 people and generates $33 billion in annual gross revenue.
