Microsoft OneDrive launches on iOS, Android and Windows devices

Microsoft OneDrive adds new features and incentives to gain bonus storage

After a rebranding, Microsoft has re-launched its cloud storage services under the name OneDrive on Windows, iOS and Android.

It may be confusing but the name change comes over six months after Microsoft was forced to rename SkyDrive following a lawsuit with Sky over the trademark. OneDrive is now available on Windows, Windows Phone, Office and Xbox. However, iPhone, iPad, Android and Mac users can still access the cloud storage service.

"When we announced the new name OneDrive, we noted how it is much more aligned with our vision for the future. Our goal is to make it as easy as possible for you to get all of your favorite stuff in one place" said Microsoft.

To tempt users to use OneDrive, Microsoft is adding new features such as automatic camera backup for Android users and the ability to share and view videos just as easily as photos.

Microsoft is also taking a leaf out of Dropbox's book by introducing incentives to earn more storage. Users can get 3GB of extra space just by using the previously mentioned camera upload function and 500MB for each successful referral (up to a maximum of 5GB).

If the 7GB of included storage plus extras isn't enough, you can pay for more OneDrive storage and Microsoft has introduced monthly payment plans to make that easier.

Anyone who used SkyDrive can simply log into OneDrive and carry on using it as per usual. The rebranding is live from today on most platforms, however, Windows 8.1 and Office 2013 won't be rebranded immediately but both will work with OneDrive.
