Content from social networks has found its way to SmartGPS, Navman’s first online enabled navigation device.

SmartGPS aims to stand out from current GPS devices by delivering dynamic information from social platforms and other live sources based on location.

Navman Technology Australia country director, Wendy Hammond, said SmartGPS is the first navigation device to integrate with social media platforms such as Yelp and Foursquare.

“We know people are using the Internet every day to search for information regarding a location or destination,” she said.

“They are also using their smartphones and tablets on the go.”

Hammond said the rest of the experience following the search is often “not great,” and its comes down to having the “right device for the right occasion.”

“We’ve introduced the SmartGPS to marry these everyday behaviours with quality navigation from a dedicated GPS device.”

Power of the Cloud

The Navman SmartGPS comes with a five inch screen that displays a map and “tiles” of real time information, such as petrol prices or limited time offers, along the route being travelled.

The devices synchs with other devices when connected via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, with the ability to wirelessly send an address found on a smartphone, tablet or computer to the SmartGPS.

Hammond said the functionality is made possible via the Smart CloudEco, which stores information before pushing it to the SmartGPS.

“What’s also special about Navman’s Smart CloudEco is that it is location-based, so the information pushed to you, while driving or walking, is relevant to exactly where you are,” she said.

The Navman SmartGPS is available now for $299 from JB Hi-Fi, Dick Smith and selected Harvey Norman stores nationally.
