Technology services and infrastructure specialist Alphawest has won a contract to supply and implement an electronic document and records management system (EDRMS) for the Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST).
The deal will see Alphawest improve and expand record management capability for the Government body by supporting traditional paper trails with an electronic system. Business analysis will start imminently with implementation getting under way in the New Year.
"Most government organisations still have a high requirement for managing paper, but employees are now creating more information electronically through e-mail," said Mark Towers, Alphawest's national manager of information management.
"The ability to effectively capture and manage e-mail in compliance with evidential and accountability requirements is a great driver in the public and private sector."
Initially, Trim Context software will be installed for 1,700 DEST seats across the country, together with an Alphawest interface, to enable the department to meet government requirements for information management.
"We are confident the new system will allow staff faster access to vital knowledge as well as offering ways to work smarter both as individuals and in work groups," said DEST chief information officer Tony Kwan.
Phase two of the contract will see Alphawest provide portal and collaborative workspace options through Hummingbird EIP products, which Kwan said will mark "a significant milestone in enabling DEST staff to achieve excellence in policy advice and program management".
Towers described the DEST deal as a "great win" for Alphawest, adding that it was one of a number of significant contracts it has signed since undergoing an $18 million management buyout in August.
"We have been providing information management solutions that combine technology with services to Federal and State Government organisations for a number of years. Forming partnerships with these organisations is a key driver for us," he added.
