Imperva partners with Cloudera on Big Data security

Data protection company adds Cloudera support to SecureSphere.

Imperva is rolling out a multi-phased program to secure Big Data, and the first step is a partnership with Cloudera.

Imperva Asia Pacific vice president, Stree Naidu, said Cloudera's expertise in enterprise analytic data management, powered using Apache Hadoop, made it a good partner.

“This deal between Imperva and Cloudera is a response to market demand around securing Big Data deployments,” he said.

Phase one of Imperva’s Big Data protection solution, SecureSphere Support for Cloudera, allows structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data in deployments to be audited and protected.

Naidu said the partnership enables Imperva to comply with Cloudera’s standards for third party integration, allowing end users access to Imperva’s security on both physical devices and the Cloud.

“We set out to address security with Big Data, and this deal with Cloudera allows us to do that,” he said.

Cloudera support in SecureSphere means organisations can use the SecureSphere’s interface to protect data within Cloudera Navigator deployments.

“With SecureSphere support from Cloudera, users can now have access to a less costly way of handling and protecting data and Big Data deployments,” Naidu said.

Focus on governance

As sensitive data gradually finds its way into Hadoop, Naidu said the topics of security and governance need to be addressed.

“When I meet CIOs, most of them want to know what our plans are for Big Data security,” he said.

How Cloudera Navigator benefits is by being only native end-to-end governance solution for Hadoop.

“SecureSphere’s support for Cloudera Navigator means our customers now have a simple view into Hadoop for meeting compliance and security needs,” Naidu said
