Australian Cloud point of sale company, Kounta, has appointed Jason Seed as its US president ahead of its 2015 launch.

Based in Palo Alto, Seed will be responsible for inking strategic partnerships and ramping up awareness for Kounta’s launch into the US market.

The company’s flagship invention allows hospitality merchants like cafes, bars, and restaurants, to run their business easily on any Web-enabled device rather than using clunky, expensive computers or terminals.

Kounta’s analytics also empower hospitality entrepreneurs to run smarter operations, making decisions based on data and knowledge instead of gut feel.

In 2014, the company has introduced host of new features, signing integration partnerships and partnering with accounting giant MYOB (a Bain Capital Company) to launch an integrated online accounting and POS solution.

According to a company statement, Seed has prior success launching Aussie POS company Shortcuts Software, internationally.

As chief executive from 2000-2006, Seed grew the company from five staff to 90 with direct operations in the UK and USA, with sales into a further 25 countries.

Seed said he was looking forward to the challenge of showing millions of businesses around America the benefits of Cloud point of sale.

“I’ve been following Kounta closely since launch, and what they’ve managed to achieve in Australia and New Zealand in such a short span of time, has me genuinely excited about challenging the status quo the US," he said.

“The sheer volume of businesses in the US that are operating on archaic, clunky, expensive hardware is staggering.

He pointed to a host of changes in the industry, such as Apple Pay and Chip and PIN introduction in the US.

"It’s important for merchants to have a flexible solution that can integrate with everything in the market," he said.

“Rather than using a device that locks you into one system and takes a clipping off each transaction, running a business on Kounta with a small flat fee puts the power back in the hands of merchants.

Counta chief executive, Nick Cloete, said he was looking forward to working alongside Jason Seed into taking Kounta to next stage of expansion.

“The US is a big challenge for any startup, but the market opportunity is equally large," he said.

"Jason brings a wealth of experience and skill which will help us launch and grow in the US market, and I’m thrilled to have him on the team.”

Kounta runs on an iPad, or any Web-enabled device.

Its API is for businesses who are looking for a Cloud-based solution capable of doing much more than the basic order entry and payment processing.

With Kounta’s add-ons, the iPad is turned into a device that handles rostering, time clocks, inventory management, product/menu management, reporting and analytics.
