Car dealership beats security password sprawl with Centrify

Network Professional Services implemented Centrify for Essendon Volkswagen to help employees remember just one password rather than 10 or 20 passwords.

Technology service provider, Network Professional Services, has helped its Melbourne-based customer, Essendon Volkswagen, defeat its security password issues through implementing Centrify.

The unified identity management vendor provides a single Active Directory or cloud-based login to corporate resources spanning across Macs, mobile devices and apps such as Microsoft Office 365, Salesforce.com and WebEx.

Essendon Volkswagen employees faced numerous password problems due to the large number of secure websites they had to access. Sales people access specific Volkswagen websites to look at costs and availability of vehicles, the finance department use other sites to communicate with the finance division, the parts department access electronic parts catalogue websites. Service people log on to websites for service, diagrams and technical information.

Due to this, most employees required 10 - 20 passwords, while some had about 40 passwords to memorise. So employees resorted to non-secure methods of using the same passwords on multiple sites or writing them down near their computer.

In October, Network Professional Services stepped in to recommend Centrify User Suite to help solve the password sprawl and insecurity. Employees only now have to remember one password.

Centrify was configured so that it would authenticate against Active Directory to give employees access to their work-related websites. Within the Admin Console, employees were placed in organisation units giving them access to specific websites in order to do their work. Centrify even puts the required internet shortcuts to each user’s browser.

The dealership has also taken steps to comply with privacy legislation, so that when an employee leaves the organisation, their access can also be removed.

As a result of this implementation, Network Professional Services, also deployed Centrify User Suite for Essendon Renault.
