Citrix rejoins Openstack

Citrix's return means its Cloud and networking products are available to openstack distributions

Citrix has become a corporate sponsor of the Openstack Foundation after leaving in 2012. The move will help drive open standards interoperability for its Cloud infrastructure and networking products.

Citrix joins the other 200 vendors that have allowed their Cloud and networking based products to be used in Openstack distributions, which allows for universal interoperability and flexibility between standards based Cloud platforms and its equipment.

Citrix's NetScaler and XenServer are already used as core Cloud infrastructure worldwide, and this arrangement is expected to drive it further. Citrix now joins industry heavyweights such as Cisco, IBM, VMware and EMC on the Openstack platform.

In the early days of OpenStack, Citrix did contribute to the codebase and community. It left the community in 2012 to focus on Apache's Cloudstack, and its return is a testament of Openstack's growth since then. Returning as a Corporate Sponsor, it will now engage in a broad set of technology and architecture activities to integrate Citrix further.

Citrix will continue to support other industry open-source standards, such as Apache and Linux infrastructure platforms CloudStack and CloudPlatform.
