Australian businesses are seeing the release of Windows 10 as a catalyst for significant business change and an opportunity to drive greater productivity, according to research company, Tech Research Asia (TRA).

The company’s consulting director, Mark Iles, said the finding, from its latest research, shows Windows 10 has fueled an appetite for change within Australian businesses, making them ready to innovate through the operating system.

The survey of 301 business decision-makers in Australia revealed almost 75 per cent of respondents are intending to adopt the new operating system within two years of launch, and 64 per cent will adopt within the first year.

Productivity improvements, improved security and mobile and PC integration were among the top five reasons for adoption, with 75 per cent citing the ability of Windows 10 to work across all mobile devices as important.

“One thing that came out of the findings is that productivity – referring to the ability to manage a different device fleet – came through as one of the requirements. They want a multi-form factor environment and a real appetite for change and innovation amongst businesses in Australia,” Iles said.

“We also think that the consumerisation of BYOD has shifted the upgrade timing for many organisations.”

He claimed 40 per cent of respondents reported the intention to adopt additional solutions within 12 months. The main preferences were integrated security solutions, Cloud, workplace service, mobile device management and unified communications and collaboration.

“Many of the companies we talk to are frustrated by a lack of integration across mobility rather than a need to simply increase mobile devices so this is recognition of how work is changing.”

Microsoft Australia Windows commercial lead, Jaron Cohen, said in the commercial space, Microsoft’s investments are in three key areas – security, innovation, and devices.

“Windows 10 is going to be one of the most secure OS’ that we’ve delivered. We’re going to deliver it as a service for our commercial customers – giving them the flexibility to upgrade how and when they want, and we want a seamless user experience running across our devices,” he mentioned.

Microsoft partner, Thomas Duryea Consulting general manager, Michael Chanter, said Windows 10 is a mature OS and enables partners to drive adoption into the enterprise space.

“People are using it and home and enjoying the experience and they want to see consistency in the office. So, we’re noticing that there’s a fairly quick move to adopt.

“Also, there’s been a big move to an Office 365 model in the segment we play in and Windows 10 facilitates that. It’s the final piece of the puzzle in terms of transformative projects for customers,” he added.
