Citrix Worx Mobile App approved for public sector use

Vendor earns government-level privacy assurance

Citrix has become one of the few vendors in Australia to earn the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) approval for public sector use of its Citrix Worx Mobile App.

The approval provides assurances to government departments they can securely access and email classified and official information and systems from a suitable mobile device.

Additionally, Citrix’s secure mail, Web and file sync and share clients on the approved iOS platform, can be configured for government use for up to protected level environments. As a result, public sector XenMobile users can easily classify emails and send these over encrypted networks to control access.

The new certification adds to the list of government approved Citrix solutions, including Citrix XenDesktop, Citrix XenApp and Citrix NetScaler. The vendor said the approvals establish the company as a one-stop shop for Australian government departments mobility needs.

“When working toward Citrix’s ASD certification, we aimed to go beyond basic regulations to provide an end-to-end security solution addressing the needs of the public sector,” Citrix government manager, Mark Hazell, said.

“With the move to the Cloud underway and employees demanding to work outside of the office and across mobile devices, government departments can now easily identify Citrix XenMobile as the ideal solution for all their mobile needs without compromising security.”

“We worked closely with ASD to achieve this level of recognition, and are now rolling updates out to a number of customers. Additionally, private sector customers who regularly deal with government departments can benefit from Worx’s protected status,” he added.

According to the vendor, to achieve protected level security status, the code for Citrix Worx apps was rewritten to enable the use of the validated encryption methods required by ASD and the methods can be enabled via the administrator defined policies provided by Citrix.
