Enterprise storage and virtualisation company, Nutanix, and Lenovo have signed a global partnership to develop, market and sell a new family of Lenovo converged appliances powered by Nutanix software.
Nutanix said, in a statement, that the companies inked the deal as they are both committed to delivering converged infrastructure that enables IT organisations to focus on the applications and services that power, and bring greater agility to, their businesses by offering a compelling alternative to public Cloud services.
The joint solution, featuring several of the latest Intel technologies, will run nearly all workloads, including enterprise applications, databases, virtualised desktops, and Big Data analytics, with improved efficiency and scalability.

“Rather than pigeonhole ourselves to the hyper converged market, it lets us expand our footprint to increase the scope of value that we cover. We were looking for a server vendor that can give us scale and reach, and Lenovo fit that bill,” he said.
“We wanted to get reach and scale without getting into any conflict with our other partners, because they have legacy products in their portfolios. And with Lenovo, our go-to-market strategy is equitable because it doesn’t have a storage business and it offers us a way to preserve the Nutanix brand in overall.”
Potti also said the partnership accelerates Nutanix into the Asia-Pacific market.
“In Asia-Pacific, this will accelerate adoption. Channel partners won’t be confused because our vendor partners all have specific technologies that they deal with. Now we can also offer our joint channel partners a conflict free design and a larger surface area of opportunity,” he added.
Lenovo chairman and CEO, Yang Yuanqing, said this partnership allows Lenovo to continue its legacy of innovation, and vision of how IT will evolve in the coming decade. He claimed Lenovo’s global reach provides the partnership with an accelerated route to market in critical segments of the industry.
“Lenovo can bring a new perspective to the global enterprise space. We do not have to protect old ways of thinking or entrenched ideas. Instead, we can build our business on innovation, and partner freely with the most innovative, leading companies in this space to create new solutions.
“Nutanix’s technology leadership, paired with our global reach, will enable both companies to thrive by helping customers dramatically reduce complexity in datacentres of all sizes,” he said.
In addition, to take advantage of the rapidly growing demand for hyper convergence platforms, Lenovo will be making investments in a dedicated skilled global sales team. The combined solution will also be sold through Lenovo channel partners worldwide, as well as by Lenovo's broader enterprise sales teams.
Additionally, Lenovo and Nutanix are planning substantial investments in platform engineering and development, as well as aggressive go-to-market initiatives.
Lenovo and Nutanix expect to jointly announce the new solutions next month at the Gartner datacentre infrastructure and operations management conference in Las Vegas.
