Operating 110 attractions across 23 countries including Australia and New Zealand, Merlin Entertainments was looking to streamline its operations and free up some of its IT team to work on more innovative initiatives.
Merlin operates resort theme parks and attractions such as LegoLand Resorts, Madame Tussauds and Sea Life aquariums.
In Australia, it operates Madame Tussauds in Sydney, Mount Hotham and Falls Creek Alpine Resorts in Victoria as well as wildlife parks and aquariums in Hamilton Island, Sydney, Melbourne and Auckland.
To help reach its IT goals, the company began looking at a number of solutions, but made a decision to use SimpliVity for its hyperconverged infrastructure in its data centres, which will see a reduction in capital and operating expenses while maintaining high performance and availability of Merlin’s business critical applications.
The company wanted a solution that would support its revenue-critical retail systems, ticketing and administration, and hotel management systems as well as core IT services.
SimpliVity’s A/NZ partner, Ethan Group was involved in the project locally while CAE Technology Services was the primary partner in Europe.
Merlin global infrastructure architect, Sean Channon, said with SimpliVity, it no longer needed to rely on in-house server or storage experts for routine system administration and support tasks.
“Instead, a small team of IT generalists efficiently manage our entire global operation,” he said.
In using SimpliVity, Merlin has built-in data protection, backup and recovery, which takes place in minutes rather than hours or days with its previous IT infrastructure.
