Jobs relating to virtual reality, artificial intelligence and IoT have tripled
Job searches related to virtual reality (VR), artificial intelligence (AI), and the Internet of Things (IoT) have tripled in the last year in Australia and are growing in precedence with those seeking jobs.
This is according to new data released by job site, Indeed.
In analysing data, the company calculated the number of total searches in Australia from Jan 2014 through to April 2016, in addition to the daily share of cyber security searches and total number of job postings for that period.
The company highlighted that as Australians are beginning to embrace digital technologies, job seekers are searching for more roles related to these three technologies in 2016. The data showed that they are strongly interested in where futuristic digital technologies could be taking their careers.
Job searches related to AI, VR, and IoT were 276 per cent higher in March 2016 than in March 2015, and 376 per cent higher in April 2016 than in April 2015.
Indeed A/NZ managing director, Chris McDonald, said the rapidly growing job searches in these fields reflect strong positivity on the development and adoption of digital technologies in Australia, including the excitement around Myer’s world-first virtual reality store, the emergence of chatbots and new AI competitors, and expectations that there will be 6.4 billion connected things globally in 2016, up 30 per cent from 2015.
“Australians are proactively looking at how they incorporate jobs of the future into their careers today.
“The growth in the VR, AI, and IoT fields are repeatedly making headlines and as businesses start to use these technologies in innovative and unique ways, the workforce is wanting to be a part of how these technologies are changing the way we communicate, shop, drive, work, and more,” he said.
According to McDonald, while employers need to be aware of the various skills shortages and gaps within their business today and in the future, they should also be paying close attention to the jobs people are want to explore and apply their skills to.
“Providing motivating and engaging workforces that also offer strong work-life balance benefits should be a top priority for employers right now among the fight for talent, particularly in the technology industry,” he added.
