D-Link is to hold a series of wireless training workshops designed to increase the knowledge of its channel partners, increase product sales and reduce the number of support calls it has to handle.
Resellers will be taught about security issues, learn how to install a wireless network and be given a hands-on opportunity to configure and set one up.
“We get a lot of calls from people indicating that they have an understanding of wireless but are not quite sure how it fits together properly,” marketing manager for D-Link A/NZ, Maurice Famularo, said. “People get confused about what bridges and access points do or have the misconception that security is a big problem.”
D-Link first ran a wireless workshop through Lan 1 at the back end of last year. It has since held firewall and VPN versions attended by more than 120 people in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
The half-day intermediate wireless workshops – to be held in Sydney on March 24, Brisbane on March 27 and Melbourne on April 1 – will be free. Up to 150 people are expected to attend.
“It creates a comfort factor for us because resellers will understand the technology better and that equates into more sales of D-Link products,” Famularo said. “They [workshops] also lower our numbers of support calls and allow us to quench the thirst for information among our channel partners.”
D-Link will run its certified engineer program in April, which it intends to bring under a new D-Link Academy umbrella with more advanced workshops in both firewall/VPN and wireless. “We will be introducing high-end routers in competition with Cisco and are looking to provide a higher level of services and training to show a strong commitment to our channel in line with that,” Famularo said.
