Dialog Information Technology is set to open a new “Innovation Factory” in Melbourne in a bid to support its planned expansion into the North American and Asia-Pacific markets.
The creation of the new hub is set to boost Victoria’s tech sector by an additional 200 high-skilled jobs, according to the state government, and will see the Australian IT services company initially focus on expanding its presence in Hong Kong, Singapore, China and New Zealand.
Dialog Information Technology, established in 1979, already has offices in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Perth, Darwin, Adelaide, Hobart and Hong Kong, and employs more than 1,200 IT specialists.
The company counts Microsoft, IBM, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Oracle, Google and SAP among its roster of partners.
The Dialog Group includes: AccessHQ, which serves major government and corporate clients; Catapult BI, a business insights and data management consultancy; multimedia company, ICEMEDIA; Lynx IT, which delivers Microsoft custom solutions; and data storage and retrieval provider, Moonwalk.
Dialog’s "Innovation Factory" is expected to begin operating in the “coming months”. It will focus on new business practice areas such as digital, accessibility, cyber security, cloud computing, social media, mobile and analytics.
Dialog will also work with local universities to fill 30 new graduate positions, bringing its Victorian workforce to more than 600, according to the state government.
“Dialog’s Graduate Program will be drawing on the skilled graduates coming out of Victoria’s education sector, growing both them, the local talent pool and further improving availability of highly experienced technologists across the state.” Dialog managing director, Alan Key, said.
Plans for the new “Innovation Factory” come as the Victorian Government works to boost its tally of tech jobs in the state, with more than 2,140 new tech jobs having been created across the state since 2014 from investment alone, according to the government.
Other tech players that have invested in a presence in Victoria recently include Alibaba, Hired, Cybergym, Square and Slack.
“Dialog’s decision to choose Victoria to expand their workforce by 200 jobs is a huge vote of confidence in the growing talent pool that our local tech sector is producing.” Victorian Minister for Small Business, Innovation and Trade, Philip Dalidakis, said.
On 18 April, the Victorian Government also announced that payments platform provider, Assembly, formerly known as PromisePay, will bolster its global headquarters in Melbourne by creating 60 new full-time over the next three years.
Melbourne was also the destination where IoT company, Freestyle Technology, decided to launch its R&D IoT Innovation Centre last year, creating 150 highly-skilled tech jobs in the process.
