Lenovo has promoted its consumer director, Brendan Lau, as its PC and Smart Devices (PCSD), consumer and SMB director.

In this newly created role, Lau will lead the PCSD consumer and SMB divisions.

Lenovo said the new role was created to align with its recent structural changes that it announced globally earlier this year.

As part of this restructure, the company realigned the PC Group (PCG), to become Lenovo’s PC and Smart Device Business Group, responsible for delivering PCs, detatchables, tablets, phablets, gaming and smart home products across Windows, Chrome and Android based products.

It said, at the time, that the change would fuel Lenovo’s ability to continue to grow share in the consolidating PC market, while focusing on the rapidly emerging smart device market.

As such, Lau will look after all aspects of Lenovo’s retail and SMB channel strategy to help drive retailer and business partner growth. His focus will cover end-consumers from the workplace to the home.

Lenovo A/NZ managing director, Matt Codrington, said Lau’s appointment will fuel Lenovo’s growth in this segment.

“Lenovo’s commitment to the channel is unparalleled in the A/NZ market and as we continue to strengthen Lenovo’s channel engagement and customer centric approach to innovation we believe this new role will further support our business partners’ growth,” he said.

Lau was in the role as consumer director for about three years before taking on the new responsibility.

“Brendan played a critical role in the launch of Lenovo’s consumer division in A/NZ nearly three years ago, growing the business to become the major challenger brand it is today in the market. It only seems fitting that we harness this expertise and knowledge to this broader role,” Codrington added.

Before Lenovo, Lau spent about eight years at HP, where he moved up the ranks from being its national account manager in 2006 through to being its printing and personal systems consumer business manager from May 2012 to August 2014.

“I am excited about the opportunity to work collaboratively with our channel community to strengthen our existing business partnerships and plan together to enable future growth,” Lau said.

Lenovo A/NZ also recently saw its channel director, Margrith Appleby, step down from her role with the vendor in March after just over a year heading up its channel operations in the local market. Lau’s role will cover her former responsibilities.

It also lost its regional sales manager of seven years, Neil Woolley, to Cavalry late last year and former channel sales manager, Lynn Nicol, to Dell EMC around the same time as well.
