Money or the cause? Money, of course

A toner cartridge remanufacturer has been given the cold shoulder in its attempts to help the environment.

Melbourne-based ATC IT Supplies launched its nationwide CartCollect service in January and offered customers the choice of being reimbursed with a cash payment of up to $12 per cartridge or an identical donation to environmentally friendly Landcare.

Unfortunately, ATC has been forced into a rethink after only three of the 50 customers registered with the CartCollect scheme agreed to part with the money in favour of tackling land and water degradation.

Customers will now be offered a third option of splitting the money equally with the charity.

“We need to create knowledge because people don’t realise we can recycle cartridges instead of sending them off to landfill,” ATC business development executive, Tina Lee, said. “Unfortunately, not many of the registered customers are currently taking the Landcare option but hopefully the 50/50 scheme will increase donations.”

The scheme has also been made more specific in an attempt to make the good cause a bit more tangible for customers.

CartCollect is now a co-sponsor of the Mitre 10 Junior Landcare Grants Program that will be launched this month.

“Customers may be more prepared to donate the money to Landcare now that some of the cash might go back to the school their children attend,” Lee said.

ATC, which sells a wide range of products including new and recycled toner cartridges, computer accessories and storage, originally launched CartCollect in an attempt to establish a point of difference in the remanufacturing market.
