Roll up for the magical Microbits bus

Some people will go to any lengths to drive home their business goals but Adelaide-based reseller Microbits has taken its rightful place at the top of the class.

The education specialist has turned a serving Melbourne Transport bus into a state-of-the-art computer showroom and is sending it all over the state to drum up IT demand among university lecturers, teachers, parents and students of all ages.

The bus will cover up to 20,000kms in its first year on the road to success.

“The Microbits bus is taking the technology to them instead of making them come to us,” senior account manager Carol Phillips, said. “Sometimes we will visit conferences where we can access teachers from 50 different schools all at once, on other days we will go to a particular school and spend two or three hours going through intense activities.

“The aim is to make this a never-ending road trip that takes constantly updated technologies to schools all over the state through the course of a year.”

As well as visiting as many schools as possible from downtown Adelaide to remote outback communities such as Oodnadatta, the bus will also be loaded with IT gear relevant for bush SME outfits.

The number of technical staff joining the bus on its trip along the information superhighway will vary from one journey to the next.

Some specialist IT teachers have also agreed to jump on board and share their skills among school communities around the state.

Phillips has a heavy duty driving licence but said she had no intentions of applying for the driver’s job.
