Momentum continues as Veeam reports strong A/NZ growth

Customer numbers, revenue and partnerships grow as Veeam builds out its ecosystem.

Veeam's Nathan Steiner (centre) said partners see opportunities in the company's multi-cloud back-up and recovery offerings.

Veeam's Nathan Steiner (centre) said partners see opportunities in the company's multi-cloud back-up and recovery offerings.

Cloud back-up and recovery vendor Veeam is reporting rapid growth both globally and within the Australia and New Zealand (A/NZ) region.

Total regional customers built to 8880 from 8550 in the second quarter, up 3.8 per cent, and from 7530 in the same quarter of 2016, a gain of 17.9 per cent.

Partner numbers increased to 2560, up from 2460 in the quarter and 2190 in the same quarter last year, the privately-owned Swiss vendor said.

Nathan Steiner, Veeam head of systems engineering for A/NZ, said the company was 100 per cent channel, so partner growth was a primary route to market.

Partners were attracted by Veeam's multi-cloud product portfolio, he said, because it gave them opportunities not available from traditional offerings which focused on on-premises deployments.

Customers were driving that demand because they are increasingly consuming ICT services across multiple clouds, public, private and hybrid.

Veeam also reported it had achieved 60 per cent growth in revenue bookings in the A/NZ region over the previous quarter - year-on-year growth in new enterprise orders was 32 per cent while its cloud segment grew 16 per cent.

It is not possible to compare those regional numbers with reports from the previous quarter or year, however, because the metrics the company releases have changed from report to report.

Steiner said overtaking Commvault in market share to move up to fourth position overall was validation that the company was executing to its strategy.

A growing understanding of the threats and risks facing digital businesses, such as recent ransomeware attacks, was also driving businesses to look for new solutions, he said.

Globally, Veeam said it had achieved 36 straight quarters of double-digit growth as well as market share gains from competitors.

Revenue bookings in the second quarter were up 27 per cent year on year, reaching 255,000 customers worldwide, representing the addition of over 4,000 new end-users each month.

In addition, Veeam said its new resale relationship with Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) was having a major impact of on booking growth in its first full quarter.

The company's ecosystem has also grown with new integrations with Pure Storage, Nutanix, Starwind and N2WS during the quarter ain addition to launching support for IBM Bluemix.

Other signs of momentum were an improvement in its ranking to fourth in both IDC and Gartner’s back-up and recovery marketshare reports.

“Veeam’s vision is clear, and over the past few months we have seen huge momentum in not only net new customers and year-over-year bookings growth, but also external validation," added Peter McKay, co-CEO and president, Veeam.

In April, Belinda Jurisic was tasked with leading Veeam’s channel programme across A/NZ.
