Vault Systems has revealed it was selected as the platform provider to host the Digital Transformation Agency's (DTA) Govpass solution.
Govpass is the Government’s digital identity solution developed by the DTA with the purpose of proving one’s identity to government services online in a simple, safe and secure manner.
Even though this is the first time the deal has been made public, Vault Systems CEO, Rupert Taylor-Price, told ARN the DTA has been hosting Govpass on Vault since November 2016.
“Privacy and protection of personal information is at the heart of the DTA’s work on digital identity,” DTA CEO, Gavin Slater, said. “Building trust in how the government stores personal data is not something we compromise on.
“Vault’s open standards cloud has been the perfect solution for Govpass, providing a level of security and sovereignty that is a critical to making the process of proving who you are to government simple, safe and secure,” Slater added.
The DTA has partnered with the Australia Post in order to integrate Australia Post’s Digital iD into the Govpass program.
In October, Govpass was being tested on the Australian Taxation Office’s new online tax file number application service, which was in beta phase then.
A total of 750,000 applications for tax file numbers are entered every year. At the time, applications could only be completed by visiting an Australia Post or Centrelink shopfront or by sending certified copies of identity documents to the ATO via post, a process that could take up to 40 days.
Govpass will be tested on a number of users and services by mid-2018 when it reaches public beta.
“Govpass will solve one of the biggest barriers for the public in terms of doing business online with government - the ability for a user to easily prove who they are,” Assistant Minister for Digital Transformation, Angus Taylor, said at the time.
Vault Systems has just announced a partnership with Moelis fund, which saw Moelis acquire a 23 per cent stake in the company.
The partnership will support Vault in its plan to invest $350 million over the coming years in Government cloud infrastructure.
Vault Systems was established in 2012 and offers a virtual private hosting service. The company is one of three Australian companies with the PROTECTED classification level for cloud providers from the Australian Signals Directory (ASD) Certified Cloud Services.
Specifically, Vault designed, built and deployed an open stack certified government community cloud that was granted the certification.
