IT asset lifecycle management company, Greenbox Systems, has launched its government-dedicated IT Commissioning Centre (ITCC) in Canberra.
This is the company's fourth centre, adding to the existing ones in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney, from where services were provided prior to the new centre being launched.
The Canberra ITCC will have 25 security-cleared specialists in order to provide Federal Government and Defence agencies with secure and large-scale IT services backed by Defence standards, ISO and R2 accreditations.
Occupying 1,500 square metres, the commissioning centre is able to store more than 1,500 pallets of equipment and is equipped to conduct more than 2,000 standard operating environment (SE) loads daily with 800 machines operating simultaneously, according to the company.
According to Minister for Defence Industry, Christopher Pyne's office this is a highly secured facility.
“This centre provides Defence and Federal Government with secure large-scale IT lifecycle services backed by Defence standards, the International Standards Organisation and Responsible Recycling accreditations,” Minister Pyne said.
“This centre will enable Australian company Greenbox to build on the work provided to Defence since 2012, which ensures sensitive data is handled appropriately.
Greenbox Systems was established in 2000 and provides secure management of sensitive IT assets from imaging to disposal of extremely-sensitive data.
“We previously delivered these services via our Sydney facility, however the proliferation in both devices and data, as well as an increase in market demand made it clear we needed a dedicated site to service the nation’s capital,” Greenbox CEO, Shane Mulholland, said.
“The new facility is the largest IT lifecycle service centre in Australia, allowing us to deliver to the needs of large and security-sensitive organisations. For Canberra clients, Greenbox reduces the costs and risks around the IT chain of custody.
"Having a local facility means that we are highly responsive and can manage all logistics and transportation in-house to the highest security standards,” Mulholland added.
The company employs more than 60 specialist staff and claims to have diverted 100 per cent of waste from landfill.
Greenbox has provided services to agencies for years, with recent contracts being awarded by the Department of Jobs and Small Business and Defence, with the latest most significant contract being awarded in March 2017 for a two-year period for hardware disposal at $5 million cost.
