Lenovo gets $22.3M to replace Acer desktops for the Dept of Human Services

Deal represents first major desktop refresh since 2012

Lenovo has won a $22.3 million contract with the Federal Government's Department of Human Services (DHS) for the supply of computer equipment and accessories.

As part of the two-year contract, Lenovo will replace ageing Acer computer hardware, a Department spokesperson told ARN.

Specifically, Lenovo will provide 12,000 desktops and 22,200 monitors that will be placed in locations across the country.

"The contract also includes integration and installation services. The deployment of the assets nationwide is expected to take up to six months," the spokesperson told ARN.

This is the first major desktop refresh for the Department since 2012, when Acer was the successful tenderer. At the time, at least three separate contracts were awarded to Acer, a $15 million for desktop hardware, a $6.5 million for 5,000 PCs and a $1.6 million for 6,800 computer monitors.

Lenovo won the latest contract after a competitive process in which the vendor provided the best value for money solution under the Government's tender process.

The tender was put to market through the Digital Transformation Agency's ICT Hardware and Associated Services Panel established in September 2015.

There are currently 33 panellists in the panel, which runs until 30 June 2018. Other PC vendors in the panel include Dell and HP and channel partners including Data#3, Datacom, Ethan Group and others.

According to research firm Gartner, three PC vendors accounted for well over half of the global PC shipments during the first quarter of 2018, with HP, Lenovo and Dell taking the top three spots, respectively.

Lenovo, which came in second in terms of shipment volume, saw its global PC shipments remain flat in the first quarter of 2018.

In October 2017, Ethan Group won a $5.79 million contract with the DHS for the provision of 2,500 Microsoft Surface Pro tablets 256GB Intel Core i5 with 8GB RAM.
