Sydney-based data analytics provider Satsuma Solutions has merged with business intelligence consultant ABM Systems, which is owned by parent company, Decision Inc Group.

ABM Systems CEO Greg Clarke said the business had been working closely with Satsuma for a number of years.

The companies merged as of 1 July and the integration process is expected to take up to eight weeks.

As a result, all of Satsuma’s staff, including its co-founder and director Matthew Cunneen, will be joining the ABM team with Cunneen taking on the role of data management practice lead.

"By joining forces, we can use our respective strengths to better service clients with data, analytical and financial management solutions in Australia,” Clarke said.

"From its experienced leadership and through its highly skilled consultants, Satsuma provides us with the opportunity to expand our client base, and better service our customers through their unique user-centred approach to data management, analytics and customer engagement through focus on delivering measurable business outcomes."

ABM was founded by Clarke in 1997 and has offices in Sydney, Perth, Melbourne, Brisbane and Wellington in New Zealand, and was acquired by South African-based management and technology consulting outfit, Decision Inc, last year.

This was part of Decision Inc’s international expansion strategy, which commenced after it received an investment from private equity firm, SAED in 2016.

Cunneen added the merger provided Satsuma with the opportunity to develop greater depth in competencies and skills.

In his new role, Cunneen will be focused on extending the capability around capturing, storing, wrangling and presenting data for an organisation - this will further build on the company’s business intelligence focus involving advanced analytics, and newer technology areas such as artificial intelligence and machine learning.

Decision Inc CEO Nick Bell said the merger illustrated the importance data insights have in making critical business decisions across multiple industry sectors in Australia.

“The ability to gain strategic insights from data is a key competitive differentiator for organisations," Bell said.

"The Decision Inc group of companies, namely Decision Inc, ABM Systems and Satsuma, are passionate about providing our clients with a platform for data analysis to assist them on their digital transformation journey."

Decision Inc and ABM’s client focus stretches across a number of verticals such as financial services, human services, property, mining, industrial, retail, and government sectors.

In addition, ABM credits itself as being one of the leading Qlik and Adaptive Insights partners in Australia.

Further acquisitions are on the cards in the coming months, along with additional solutions and services that will take advantage of all new staff, their experience and skill sets, Cunneen added.

“An important note to mention is the focus the team is placing on each brand’s client base and ensuring the highest level of customer service and communication during this transition,” he said.
