Melbourne-based computer components and peripherals distributor, Mittoni Technology has acquired fellow distributor, Rectron Electronics for an undisclosed sum.

The acquisition includes inventory, customer lists, supplier agreements, branding and other select IP including website, trademarks and databases.

Mittoni specialises in distributing extreme performance computer components, thermal solutions, gaming peripherals, digital storage and accessories from vendors such as Asus, G.Skill, NZXT, Thermaltake, Western Digital, Philips and DeepCool.

Besides Melbourne, Mittoni also has a presence in Sydney, Brisbane and Perth.

Meanwhile, Rectron maintains offices and warehouse facilities in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane and provides services to more than 1600 resellers, including mass retailers, regional and independent small retailers throughout Australia.

From a technology perspective, its product portfolio features brands such as Antec, BenQ, Epson, Vantec, AOC, ASRock, Cooler Master, Microsoft and XYZ Printing.

"It was the perfect timing for both companies," Mittoni CEO, Louis Mittoni, said. "Rectron was looking to make a change in direction and we were looking to expand and grow our customer and vendor base."

The acquisition follows the decision by Rectron Group CEO, Tony Church, to focus the balance of the business on a new product and market strategy under its education brand, IG3.

"I’m pleased that Mittoni has been able to assist Rectron in the implementation of our wider group strategy," Church added.

"It was important to us that we found a respected technology distribution partner who could continue providing great service to Rectron’s loyal customer and vendor base."

The move enables Mittoni to improve its customer database and strengthen vendor relationships under the leadership of general manager, Lian Yu.

"Our plan is to effect a smooth and rapid transition of business from Rectron to Mittoni so that high service levels are provided to Rectron’s customers and vendors within a short period of time,” Yu said.

"We look forward to offering our customers an expanded range of great brands, and to working closely with Rectron’s customers who now have an account with Mittoni as a consequence of this change."

As a result, the acquisition will see Mittoni grow from 30 to about 40 - 45 staff, with plans in place to offer employment to some of Rectron Electronics staff as it transfers selected business assets, including a number of premium vendors.

The integration process is expected to take a couple of weeks.

"We have put steps into place to provide a seamless transition for each of Rectron’s vendors," Yu said.

"We are in discussions to set out strategies with our new vendors to drive growth for the key high sales period in the second half-year of 2018."

In October, Yu was promoted as the new general manager as the distributor sought a new chapter of growth. Prior to her promotion, Mittoni moved its head office and operations to a new facility in Dandenong South, Victoria.
