iiNet founder and former CEO Michael Malone has been reappointed as a non-executive director of the NBN Co board for a further three years.

Malone has been in the board of the company behind the roll out of the National Broadband Network since 2016, and his renewed term starts on 20 April 2019.

"Malone’s reappointment will provide certainty to the NBN Co board as the company completes the network rollout phase and transitions to a mature operating business," stated Minister for Communications and Art Mitch Fifield and Minister for Finance and the Public Service Mathias Cormann in a joint statement.

"His business acumen and experience in telecommunications services and infrastructure, including as founder and former CEO of internet provider iiNet, will continue to be a valuable asset for the Board."

In November, Malone joined the board Perth-headquartered satellite company, Sky and Space Global as the new chairman.

The Australian Securities Exchange listed company (SAS) CEO and managing director Meir Moalem said at the time that Malone’s appointment would be a big plus for Australian investors, putting a stake in the international scene.
