Canberra-based Australian Data Centres (ADC) has inked a partnership with Mainframe Cloud to help provide government agencies with efficient and cost-effective inter-agency data sharing and access to mainframe data.
ADC CEO, Megan James, said the partnership was a first in a wider strategic alliance partner ecosystem offering to government, with agencies have already taking advantage.
“Large volumes of federal and state government agency data reside on mainframes. Extracting and transforming this data is often inherently complicated and expensive,” James said.
“The partnership with Mainframe Cloud will allow our clients to positively impact their inter-agency data sharing by allowing data to be extracted to a private ASD-certified cloud environment with minimal set-up and zero additional infrastructure."
Furthermore, Mainframe Cloud will allow agencies to merge mainframe data with other sources, and enable data to be interrogated on-demand, James said.
“Business rules to clean-up the data can be written in most modern programming languages before or after extraction," she added. "This eliminates the need for legacy code.
"We have been working with innovative organisations to help solve some of the problems that government agencies face, and there’s a lot of mainframes around that people don’t know what to do with or how to access them, and this brings a layer of technology that allows access to that."
Mainframe Cloud co-founder and CEO, Ben Pearson, added the new partnership would be particularly attractive to agencies who wanted to realise actual information management efficiencies.
Mainframe Cloud was founded in 2015, and counts the Australian Taxation Office as one its early adopters.
Meanwhile, ADC credits itself as the only 100 per cent Australian owned and operated data centre that opened up its Tier 3 facility in 2010 with a view to target the Federal Government's whole of government data centre strategy at the time.
