Getronics forges path into procurement

Solutions provider Getronics has announced the implementation of a new e-commerce solution specifically designed for Pacific Magazine Publishing (PMP).

It is estimated the system will save PMP $10 million annually by consolidating its procurement. PMP calculations predict it will reduce the number of suppliers from 9500 to 1000, plummeting individual transaction costs from $200 to under $20.

Getronics went into partnership with Microsoft to develop the tailored solution using Microsoft's B2B product, Biztalk, as a platform. Getronics general manager Robin Dixon said that this is the first partnership of its kind in Australia and forges a path for further deals in the future.

"Microsoft uses the Microsoft Market program internally, but outside of Microsoft this is the first implementation of its kind in Australia," said John Dwyer, regional manager for Microsoft Australia.

The new-and-improved Biztalk program provides the underpinnings for similar projects, Dixon said. "We will definitely be taking it to the marketplace."Due to a request by PMP, Dixon was unable to give specific figures on what the contract is worth. He did say however, that the deal was a big coup for Getronics who won the contract over companies like Compaq.

The system is due to be completed and ready to launch in August. A relatively speedy implementation according to Dixon, considering Getronics was awarded the contract in December last year.
