Men outnumber women in the IT industry, but here's a list of executive female leaders who have become influential figures in Australia’s ICT industry

The number of women being employed in the IT industry remains dramatically low, according to a recent report from recruitment experts, Greythorn.

The group found men outnumber women by almost four to one. Only 3 per cent of women had a salary of over $150,000 per year compared to the 7 per cent of men in the same pay bracket. Greythorn managing director, Richard Fischer, said the gender imbalance had long been the white elephant of the IT industry.

“11 per cent of people with 25 years plus of experience are female,” he said. “For those with less than five years it’s more respectable 35 per cent, but it’s still more of a profound imbalance than other industries.”

Fischer’s comments echo complaints by women in IT, who told ARN the glass ceiling was still firmly in place and that the lack of a quota was not helping.

In light of this recent survey, and our roundtable earlier this year, ARN has compiled a list of executive female leaders to recognise those who have made it through to become influential figures in Australia’s ICT industry.

ARN’s list of notable women is broken up into ICT vendor and industry figures, as well as IT channel personalities from today and yesterday.
