Cloud file-sharing service provider Druva announced Version 5.0 of its inSync software, which offers unified backup and data access in either an on-premises model or a SaaS model.
Separately, Germany-based enterprise cloud data synchronization provider TeamDrive announced its next-generation product for iOS-enabled mobile devices.
Druva's inSync 5.0 allows end users to back up data on all their devices to a single repository that's accessible via any of their mobile devices or computers via a Web connection.
The updated software also introduces a number of new management capabilities. Among them is one point of control for each enterprise user, meaning IT admins can track any employee's mobile device and remotely wipe data from it. The new capabilities allow IT admins to wipe an entire phone, or simply search for a single document on the phone and erase it, said Druva CEO Jaspreet Singh.
Druva also changed its licensing from a device-based model to a user-based model. The company charges $4 a month per user for its on-premises software and $6 per month for its SaaS product. Any number of devices per user can be backed up at no additional charge.
The capabilities with inSync 5.0 work in conjunction with another tool called Advanced Data Insights . Announced last November, Advanced Data Insights provides IT managers with a summary of file composition across endpoints -- such as by file type, size or history, as well as aggregate and per-user storage consumption.
"So you can use this to plan your storage growth. If you need to see which email documents take the most capacity, you can do that," Singh said.
Druva's inSync 5.0 works with iOS- and Android-based devices. The company might also add Windows to its list of supported platforms, Singh said.
TeamDrive 3.0
The latest version of cloud storage service TeamDrive, Version 3.0, offers support for iOS and Android devices; it also provides data security using encryption prior to data being transmitted over the Internet. Previously, only desktop clients could use the service.
The new TeamDrive product has been certified by the Independent Centre for Data Protection in Germany.
TeamDrive's secure cloud file-sharing approach means that all data is encrypted on the originating device before being uploaded to the cloud, which prevents unauthorized interception, the company said. RSA-2048 encryption is used on invitations to share AES-256 encrypted files on any TeamDrive cloud.
Version 3.0 also adds new built-in features, such as a photo-sharing tool, that make it easier to ensure secure, remote collaboration with always-on access to office files, photos, music and videos -- even when offline.
The company also offers the option of running a TeamDrive server within a company's own data center as well as on a public or private cloud. With the on-premises version, companies operate their own private file-sharing service. The contents remain under company control, on company-owned and managed servers.
"The iPad and iPhone are hugely popular choices for enterprise users, especially under 'bring your own device' policies. Yet, until today, no cloud synchronization tool was available to provide genuine, enterprise-grade security for those devices," said Volker Oboda, CEO of TeamDrive.
TeamDrive offers three pricing tiers: a free option with up to 2GB of capacity, a Personal option for $35 per year, and a Professional option for $67 per year or $7 per month.
