Telecommunications Ombudsman reorganises into single board

Board and council structure merged into a single board of directors

The Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman (TIO) has merged its board and council into a united board of directors.

The TIO is a free dispute resolution service for small business and residential telco customers which covers telephone and Internet services in Australia.

The new board is composed of consumer, industry, and independent directors with the goal of streamlining decision-making and providing better oversight of the TIO by a single body.

It will be independently chaired by Patricia Faulkner, who is currently chair of the National Health Performance Authority, Superpartners, and Jesuit Social Services, and is also deputy chair of St Vincent’s Health Australia.

Most of the board’s directors are members of the former TIO entities, with the exception of newly-appointed independent, Philippa Smith, a former Commonwealth Ombudsman.
