Not-for-profit program, MobileMuster, has announced the winners of its Workplace Recycling Awards at the Australian Waste and Recycling Expo.
The government accredited program recognised the efforts of nine Australian workplaces spanning corporate, government, education and not-for-profit sectors, in keeping old mobile phones and accessories out of landfill.
Winning workplaces included Department of Defence ACT, Police, Fire and Emergency Services NT, Department of Transport and Main Roads QLD, Transperth WA and the University of Tasmania.
They were recognised as MobileMuster’s Top Collectors, a title earned t by the heaviest kilograms of E-waste collected.
Recycling manager for MobileMuster, Rose Read, said, ““E-waste is increasingly a concern within Australia, growing three times faster than any other waste issue, and workplaces play a pivotal role in tackling the problem head on.”
Read claimed that MobileMuster provides workplaces with assurance that they are partnering with best practice recycling processes that are to the highest environmental standards, as it is the only government accredited recycling program in Australia.
She added, “In the 12 months to June 30, workplaces diverted over 4945kg of mobiles, batteries, chargers and accessories from landfill and over the past 10 years have collected over 85,000kg mobiles and accessories for recycling.”
MobileMuster is funded by industry companies including Microsoft, Motorola, Samsung, HTC, Huawei, ZTE, Alcatel OneTouch, Force Technology, Telstra, Optus, Vodafone and Virgin Mobile.
