Check Point responds to Govt cyber strategy with free security screening for businesses

Security vendor issues response to government’s proposed Cyber Security Strategy.

Check Point Software Technologies, is offering free security check-ups for Australia and New Zealand enterprises, following the announcement of the Australian government’s Cyber Security Strategy.

As reported by ARN last month, the government is investing $230 million to cover free security health checks for ASX 100 companies, alongside $15 million in small business grants to help enterprises test security practices.

Check Point’s free screening looks to ensure Australian businesses do not miss the opportunity to detect malware infections, usage of high risk web applications and websites, intrusion attempts and loss of sensitive data.

According to Check Point regional managing director A/NZ, David De Laine, trends such as Cloud computing, mobility and the Internet of Things are reshaping traditional infrastructure and as such, redefining perimeters.

“External data sources, Cloud platforms and mobile devices all provide valuable services, but they also create new potential avenues for intrusion," he said.

"Each and every endpoint is a potential door into an organisation’s IT systems and data, and hackers only need to open one to wreak havoc.

"The benefits of having a free security check up provide organisations with the knowledge that core systems and data will remain secure at all times.”

De Laine said figures from The Australian Crime Commission estimate that cyber crime costs Australia $1 billion in direct costs.

Locally, high profile intrusions since 2015 have included Kmart, David Jones, the Australian Bureau of Meteorology, The Royal Melbourne Hospital and Australian Government Parliamentary Services.
