Transport for NSW has rolled multiple agreements with Telstra into a single $23.1 million contract for the provision of telecommunications data services to its Transport Cluster.
The terms of the deal see Australia’s largest telecommunications company provide its services for several agencies under the NSW Transport Cluster until at least June 2018.
The department’s Transport Cluster contains several agencies, including Roads and Maritime Services, Sydney Trains, NSW Trains, State Transit Authority, and the WestConnex Delivery Authority. Its lead agency is Transport for NSW.
“Transport for NSW has merged existing services within Transport agencies under one contract with Telstra due to expiration of existing contract agreements,” a Transport for NSW spokesperson told ARN.
“Individual contracts were previously held between Telstra and some of transport’s agencies.
The agencies under this new agreement are Transport for NSW, State Transit Authority, Sydney Trains, NSW TrainLink, and Roads and Maritime Services,” the spokesperson said.
The deal, which was not part of competitive tender process, follows a $24.15 million contract awarded to CSC subsidiary, UXC Connect, by Transport for NSW late last month for the provision of network design and hardware supply services.
The multi-year deal with UXC Connect will see over 1,000 Transport for NSW sites around the state receive new infrastructure designed and procured by UXC Connect, and rolled out by implementation partners under a separate tender process.
The agency’s multimillion-dollar data services contract with Telstra follows its push to transform its back-of-house IT systems in a strategy that saw it ink a $113 million contract with UXC Limited in April, as part of its Next Generation Infrastructure Services (NGIS) program.
“We’re looking at a whole new way of working at transport and this IT upgrade will lay the foundation for a more collaborative, efficient and agile workforce, geared up to deliver for our customers, now and into the future,” Transport for NSW secretary, Tim Reardon, said in April.
The agreement with the CSC company saw Transport for NSW begin the process consolidating separate IT networks across 25,000 staff at hundreds of locations across the state.
“This upgrade will bring the whole transport team onto a single, fast and modern network, allowing staff to collaborate and work anywhere they need to – across locations or in the field – saving time and money,” Reardon said.
